How Did Felix’s Place Get Its Name?
The center was named in recognition of Deacon Felix Campbell (1917-1996)
who is the father of Reverend Dr. Falicia Campbell. Felix was a lifelong
resident of the Englewood community and president of the National Laymen
Association. He was also a community advocate who encouraged family
values and communal support to anyone in need. The shelter is named
in his honor to further uphold the standards and vision that he possessed.
The Englewood community is one of the top crime and poverty stricken
areas in the City of Chicago. Everyday its residents are faced with
drugs, alcohol and homelessness. Rev. Dr. Campbell, just as her father,
saw a need and decided that the people of this community needed a haven
from these situations and she in turn has given them Felix’s
Place: The Fortress of Hope.
